Here is another Spanish interview from 1999, after MTV Unplugged. It's online chat.

Shakira: Hola a todos, perdonen la demora; hemos tenido un día intenso, estamos haciendo fotos con Alejandro Fernández para Eres y muchas entrevistas que podrán ver pronto en televisión mexicana. ¡Pero ya estoy aquí, como dice la canción!

Eric: ¿Cuáles crees que sean los valores más importantes para ser un buen artista?

Shakira: Indispensables: Talento, que es el barco que un buen capitán debe conducir, pero ningún capitán puede enfrentar los mares y las tempestades sin una buena tripulación.

Nayeli: ¿Cuáles son tus temores ante un público exigente?

Shakira: Para enfrentar un público exigente, un artista jamás debe ser víctima de sus temores; de otra manera, la batalla está perdida desde el comienzo.

Admirador: Mis canciones favoritas son... ¡todas! ¿Por qué crees que has tenido tanto éxito?

Shakira: Muchas gracias, Admirador. Me supongo que he contado con la bendición de personas como tú que escuchen lo que tengo por decir.

Genaro Salazar: Musicalmente, ¿a quién escuchas? ¿Quién te gusta?

Shakira: Los clásicos del rock, son mi debilidad, como Police, Beatles, The Cure, pero mis bandas favoritas actuales son dos (inglesas, por cierto): Radiohead y Blur.

Luis Felipe Piña: Me sorprende tu sencillez, ¿qué haces para mantener los pies en la tierra?

Shakira: Tengo una relación muy cercana con dos personas que se preocupan más por el ser humano que por el artista, mis padres. Son como los detectores que tienen los aviones para descubrir a los fumadores traviesos; ellos detectan cualquier problema emocional, afectivo, espiritual por el que esté atravesando, y me ayudan a superarlo.

Betho: ¿Cómo te sientes ahorita que estás dentro de tu proyección internacional? ¿Pensaste alguna vez que ibas a estar en este momento?

Shakira: Desde muy pequeña visualicé mi vida artística; sabía que iba a ser una persona pública, como una de esas profecías que se anuncian. Pero todavía hay muchos sueños por cumplir, y muchos miedos por vencer. Siempre hay que aplastar los temores, así como a las cucarachas+ pero hace mucho tiempo que no aplasto cucarachas.

Mangel: ¿Qué se siente ser tan famoso? ¿Cómo es Shakira?

Shakira: Esa es la pregunta más difícil que me pueden hacer. Supongo que todavía no lo sé con certeza, todos los días me hago esa pregunta frente al espejo.

Andrea: Cuéntanos de la experiencia al ser entrevistada por Gabriel García Márquez.

Shakira: Nadie hubiera podido revelarme mejor de lo que lo hizo él. Ni siquiera un astrólogo, sacerdote o psiquiatra. Es realmente lo que llamamos un escritor. Cuando leí su artículo mis ojos se humedecieron. Creo que construyó un espejo para mí en el que me hizo ver más bonita de lo que soy.

Logo: ¿Cómo empezaste en el ambiente musical?

Shakira: Bailando la Danza Arabe, ésa fue la primera experiencia sobre un escenario, frente a un público, a los 4 años de edad. Fue el pasaporte que me introdujo al mundo en el que hoy vivo. A los 8 años, escribí mi primera canción, y a los 10 decidí que quería ser cantante. A los 13 grabé mi primer álbum... y heme aquí, ¡chateando!.

Andrea: ¿Le escribirías una canción a tu paisano García Márquez?

Shakira: ¡Sí me enamoro de él, si!

Puchungo: ¿Qué te gustaría ser en tu otra vida?

Shakira: No creo que haya otra vida, que no sea la eterna.

Betho: ¿Qué cambiarías de este mundo en el que nos tocó vivir?

Shakira: Borraría del diccionario la palabra ambición.

Inevitable: ¿Por qué te nació componer "¿Donde Están los Ladrones?"?

Shakira: Porque se me perdió una maleta (o más bien me la robaron), en la que estaban unas canciones de mi próximo álbum. Meditando, descubrí que ladrones no son sólo los que me robaron mis pertenencias. Ladrones somos todos+

Admirador: ¿Quién es esa persona por la que te vuelves ciega, sordomuda?

Shakira: Esta telenovela la protagonizan varios galanes, que además aún faltan por aparecer...

Jazz: ¿Eres ambiciosa? ¿No es ambición de cierta forma el ser mejor?

Shakira: Yo no le llamo ambición, le llamo ilusión, deseo, le llamo pasión. La ambición, por lo general, siempre tiene otras motivaciones de por medio. Ninguna canción que te haga llorar puede ser escrita con el sentimiento de la ambición.

Betho: ¿De dónde sacas tu look? ¡Nos encanta!

Shakira: Muchas gracias+ ¿Te refieres al cabello rojo? Lo saqué de unas cajas de peróxido.

Shakiras Boyfriend: ¿Cuál es la canción que más te ha inspirado amor en toda tu carrera?

Shakira: Este chat ya se va poniendo más interesante ¡ya me van apareciendo novios! Supongo que me identifico con todas mis canciones, todas de alguna manera revelan un episodio de mi vida, un concepto o idea; me es difícil escoger una.

Allan: ¿Qué significa México para ti?

Shakira: Lo dije muchas veces y lo seguiré diciendo, la tierra que me prometieron en sueños.

Inevitable: ¿Cómo es un día en tu vida cuando no estás trabajando?

Shakira: Me gusta ir al mar, leer y pintar huevos fritos.

Jazz: ¿Has considerado la posibilidad de incluir canciones que reflejen problemáticas de tu país?

Shakira: Todo lo que escribo pasa en mi país, como pasa en cualquier parte del mundo, últimamente he escrito algunos versos inspirados en Colombia. Ahora existe un poco de valentía para hacerlos públicos.

Luis Felipe Piña: ¿Qué tanto han impulsado Emilio y Gloria Estefan tu carrera?

Shakira:Me han inspirado a crecer y me motivan a dar pasos importantes como el del 'crossover'. Gloria y Emilio son ejemplo para mí y para muchos, no sólo de cómo ser exitosos, sino también de cómo saber compartir.

Carlos Cantú: Antes, lo más famoso de Colombia era el narcotráfico, ahora eres tú. ¿Crees que la fama te haya afectado de algún modo?

Shakira: Conozco la fama desde hace mucho tiempo, la he ido saboreando de a poquito (no me la he tragado de un solo bocado). Es como una hermana que ha ido engordando con el tiempo. La fama, en mi caso, no es una enemiga, es mi aliada.

Ponchito: ¿Dejarías tu carrera por el amor de tu vida?

Shakira: Aún no he conocido un hombre que me inspire a hacer tal cosa, pero por ahí dicen "nunca digas nunca", así que yo digo "jamás".

ChikisMty: ¿Tienes alguna dinámica motivacional antes de tu show?

Shakira: Orar y visualizar.

Luis Felipe Piña: ¿Qué opinas de que te comparen con Alanis Morissette?

Shakira:Hay muchas coincidencias entre ella y yo, por lo cual entiendo la comparación. Pero también hay muchas diferencias, somos dos artistas distintas, con propuestas diferentes. Es bueno que la gente también se percate de ello, ¿no?

Alejandro: Defínete en tres palabras.

Shakira: Policromática, amorfa, confusa.

Sordomudo: ¿Cuándo sale tu disco al mercado estadounidense?

Shakira: A mediados del año que viene, si Dios quiere.

Danae: ¿Tienes algún sueño que aún no hayas alcanzado y por el cual todavía estés luchando?

Shakira: Lanzar un álbum en el mercado estadounidense.

Snap: ¿Dónde te visualizas en 20 años?

Shakira: Ojalá con la gente a la que amo. Y con una sonrisa de satisfacción en los labios.

Bonovox: ¿Cuál ha sido tu mayor dolor sentimental en la vida y cómo la enfrentaste?

Shakira:Aprender a vivir con las mentiras de otros. Saber que no todos tenemos la valentía de morir por la verdad de una cruz. La mentira es aire contaminado que poco a poco nos acostumbramos a respirar.

H25: ¿Cuándo vamos a poder disfrutar el Unplugged de MTV?

Shakira: A mediados de septiembre ¡No se lo pierdan que está padrísimo!

Aburridodeesperar: ¿Cuál es tu opinión de la lucha sexista entre el feminismo y el machismo?

Shakira: Primero, jamás te aburras de esperar, aunque tienes derecho a hacerlo. Y segundo, no soy feminista ni machista, soy humanista. Me apasiona lo humano, como me apasiona lo divino.

Shakira: Amigos, estoy muy triste porque me tengo que retirar de esta agradable conversación, pero me están arrastrando por los cabellos a una sala repleta de periodistas de radio, que han estado esperando por largo tiempo.

Gracias por hacerse presentes, por tanto cariño y por entenderme. La pasé muy bien, fue muy divertido y espero que se repita muchas veces. Los quiero.

Campos: ¿Cómo podemos saber que eres tú la que está escribiendo?

Shakira: Para que se despeje cualquier tipo de duda pueden seguir preguntando, y yo seguiré respondiendo. Nadie podría decir tantas tonterías en tan poco tiempo si no fuese yo.

I understand what you feel regarding the lack of comments or replies, Gatito.

I recently translated that TV interview with Shaki at the Brazilian show with Jo Soares and although I had to watch the interview 3 times, write it down, check for accuracy, etc, etc, Dusty was the only one to acknowledge it. Which is fine but then one thinks twice before going through all that work again, hehe.

No no, I wasn't fishing for thankyous or appreciation. I'm totally cool with 0 reply posts. Only they kind of insist that the topic wasn't interesting enough. I'm quite aware of the level of my obsession and I know that not all people are that obsessed and I just don't want to bore you with those interviews which basically don't say anything new...only have those cute little details.

Edit: I'd happy to translate the interview but I have to finish unpacking, I have visitors tomorrow

Exactly! and that is why I didn't feel very motivated to translate that article about Antonio. I know and understand that most of Shaki's fans don't care about him and after working the whole day as a translator I think twice before translating yet another piece if I feel that might not interest the majority here.

I like the interviews with her very much. And even though my level of dedication to her is not comparable with the kind of obsession mentioned by our gatito I do appreciate you guys taking the time and providing us with interviews, articles or anything else. With Spanish unfortunately I am having trouble. And as I am trying to push my Portuguese knowledge I kind of try to avoid Spanish as it seems confusingly close to Portuguese to me.

Shakira: Hi everybody, sorry for the delay; we have had intense day, we had a photoshoot with Alejandro Fernandez for Eres magazine and many interviews - you will be able to see them in Mexican TV soon. But now I'm here, like the song says!

Eric: What do you think are the most important values one has to have in order to be a good artist?

Shakira: Indispensable: Talent, that is the boat a good captain must lead, but no captain can face the seas and storms without a good crew.

Nayeli: Which are your fears before a demanding public?

Shakira: In order to face a demanding public, an artist never must be victim of his fears; or the battle is lost from the beginning.

Admirer: My favorite songs are... all! Why have you been so successful?

Shakira: Thank you very much, Admirer. I assume that I'm counting with the blessing of people like you who listen to what I have to say.

Shakira: My weakness are rock classics, like Police, Beatles, The Cure, but my present two favorite bands are (English, by the way): Radiohead and Blur.

Shakira: I have a very close relationship with two people, who care more about the human being than about the artist, my parents. They are like the detectors that the airplanes have to discover the smoke; they detect any emotional, affective, spiritual problem I have and they help me to surpass it.

Betho: How do you feel right now within your international projection? Did you think sometimes that you were going to reach this moment?

Shakira: From very young age I visualized my artistic life; I knew that I was going to be a public person, it was like a prophecy. But still there are many dreams to fulfill, and many fears to win. It is always necessary to squash the fears, like cocroaches, but I haven't squashed cockroaches for a long time now.

Mangel: How does it feel to be so famous? How is it to be Shakira?

Shakira: This is the most difficult question one can ask me. I think that I still don't know that for sure, every day I ask that question from myself in front of the mirror.

Andrea: Tell us about the experience of being interviewed by Gabriel Garcia Márquez.

Shakira: Nobody had been able to reveal me better than he did. Not even an astrologist, priest or psychiatrist. He is really what we call a writer. When I read his article my eyes became damp. I believe that he constructed a mirror for me in which he made me look prettier than I am.

Logo: How did you start with the music?

Shakira: Dancing the Arabic dance, that was the first experience on a scene, in front of a public, at 4 years of age. It was the passport that introduced me to the world in which I live today. At 8 I wrote my first song, and at 10 I decided that I wanted to sing. At 13 I recorded my first album... and now I'm here, chatting.

Andrea: Would you write a song to your countryman Garcia Márquez?

Shakira: Yes, If I fall in love with him!

Puchungo: What/who would you like to be in your other life?

Shakira: I do not believe that there is another life that is not the eternal one.

Betho: What would you change in this world in which we have to live?

Shakira: I would erase the word ambition from the dictionary.

Inevitable: Explain the story behind "Donde Estan los Ladrones"?

Shakira: I lost a suitcase (or rather it was robbed) in which were songs of my next album. Meditating, I discovered that thieves are not only those that robbed my properties from me. We all are thieves.

Admirer: Who is that person by whom you become ciega, sordomuda?

Shakira: In this soap opera perform several gallants, who still fail to appear... [this was a bit difficult for me, maybe I misunderstood?]
