Me too actually P.jpg I did read your review though when you posted it xD

I have to say that you changed my point of view on the end entirely. What you say makes an awful lot of sense xD

Is it a good thing I haven't seen the movie then? P.jpg

Yes, it's a very good thing... the book is based more on the later part when Neville has already turned into a hunting scientist. But it lacks quite a lot of what makes the book so interesting. Like the constant alcohol problems... the sexual feelings... the ambiguity of his actions which becomes obvious at the end of the movie. The ending of the movie is quite ridiculous, almost messianic (and the alternative ending isn't really much better).

Briefly: The book is outstanding, the movie is mediocre. smile1.jpg

And if nobody else than the two of us has to say something about the book, I will unpin this thread.

A book club lives through its members and discussions. Judging by that, our club has died before it even came to life. angry.jpg

Even though I'm sad to admit it, I think that's a good idea. We can't really continue discussing, because you've already reformed me P.jpg

It's a shame. >.<

Well, we can continue the book club with just the two of us. wink.jpg

What was quite interesting with this novel for example is the fact that sexual feelings for the monsters/vampires/zombies are mentioned... which is something I haven't seen or read to that extent so far. It makes Neville a more realistic character in my opinion and not a heroic one who doesn't have any desires or such.

I'm really willing to participate, but it's not that easy to buy an English language book here...or borrow. So if the next book is something I can get my paws on you can count me in.

I was thinking about reading Love in the Time of Cholera. I havent' read that yet.

Well, two reasons against "Love in the Time of Cholera":

1. It's quite long with some 370 pages.
2. (which is just my personal opinion) I'd like to have books here which are not that known to the honourable club members. This excludes Marquez in my opinion because I guess 43,7% of Shakira fans know about Marquez and quite a lot of them even read one or two books by him.

I kind of agree with your second point, but not with your first. When you have a month to read a book, 300+ pages is not really very horrible, right? Maybe it's just my twisted reading-obsessed mind, but I could easily finish a big book in a month.

@Gato: Time to order at Palmtree then P.jpg

@Christiane: Is it because you just don't like the genre? Or because of something else? If it's the first: I think every one who's in a book club has to read a book they don't like once in a while. I normally don't read books like I Am Legend, because I prefer romance novels, but guess what, I really liked the book!

Absolutely true. I found it even more interesting that when he finally met a woman (who he thought was "normal"), it stunned him that he did not desire to have sexual intercourse with her, because he was alienated. He just needed someone to hold on to, and to share his thoughts with (nomatter how reluctantly).

I think since nobody has time for the book club (including myself unfortunately), unpinning this is a good idea.

If somehow the topic comes to life again, we will see then. smile1.jpg
